The Thai Cabinet has authorized the creation of two more platoons of all-female rangers to support counterinsurgency operations in southern Thailand, reports the Bangkok Post.
The army is expected to recruit 188 women to form the 6th and 7th Ranger platoons, assigned to the 4th Army, which is responsible for security in the southern provinces, said a government spokesman.
