Government Considers Refueling Ops Near Somalia

The Japanese government says it may send Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) tankers near Somalia to support coalition warships conducting anti-piracy operations in the region, reports the Kyodo News Agency.
Under current anti-piracy legislation, Tokyo has dispatched destroyers to the region to escort merchant ships. The law does not contain a provision for refueling by navy tankers.
