The chief of Madagascar's army has met with a group of rebel military officers who tried to topple the government and set up a ruling military council, Reuters reports.
Chief of Staff Gen. Andre Ndriarijoana visited the dissident officers for about two hours on Friday in their barracks near the international airport, officials said. The talks were said to be ongoing.
Security forces reportedly later fired tear gas to disperse crowds gathering near the barracks.
