The Iraqi government has authorized an increase in the size of a coalition of militias, many with ties to Iran, reports the New Arab (U.K.).
A source close to Prime Minister Mustafa Al Kadhimi told the news site that the government was poised to expand the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) militia by about 30,000 fighters.
The decision, for which no timeline has been announced, followed pressure from the Fatah Alliance and the State of Law Coalition, both close to Iran.
