Global Hawk UAV Offered For Arctic Surveillance

The Canadian government is considering a fleet of high-altitude unmanned aerial vehicles for Arctic surveillance missions, reports the Canadian Press.

U.S. defense firm Northrop Grumman has offered to modify at least three Global Hawk drones for Arctic operations.

Northrop has termed the aircraft "Polar Hawks," reports the Ottawa Citizen.

The Canadian government's plans to establish a larger presence in the Arctic have fallen behind schedule.
