President Obama has nominated Army Gen. Carter Ham as the next commander of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), Defence Web (South Africa) reports.
Ham is currently the commanding general of U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army in Germany.
Previously, Ham served as the director for operations on the Joint Staff and the commanding general of the 1st Infantry Division.
If confirmed by the Senate, Ham would replace Gen. William "Kip" Ward, AFRICOM's first chief.
