U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates arrived in Afghanistan on Thursday with plans to send more troops to that country, the New York Times reports.
Gates is scheduled to meet with Gen. David McKiernan, the top commander in Afghanistan, to discuss the deployment of up to 20,000 additional troops to the country.
Gates told reporters en route that 3,500 to 4,000 troops from the Third Brigade of the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, N.Y., are due to arrive next month. Two more...
