After 25 years of service, a U.S. Navy frigate is about to be decommissioned at Norfolk Naval Station, Va., reports the Virginian-Pilot (Hampton Roads, Va.).
The Hawes (FFG-53), named after Rear Adm. Richard Hawes, a two-time recipient of the Navy Cross, entered service in 1985 and will be decommissioned on Dec. 10.
The warship has performed convoy escort, coastal operations and air and surface warfare missions.
The frigate is scheduled to be towed to the Inactive Ships...
