A French special operations soldier was killed in fighting in the Middle East, reports France 24.
The soldier from the 13th Parachute Regiment, a special operations unit, was assigned to Operation Chammal, the designation for French military operations in Iraq and Syria.
The paratrooper was the first French casualty since the mission began in September 2014, according to military sources cited by Agence France-Presse.
