German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen has underscored her government's support to regional efforts to combat the Islamic State in West Africa, reports Deutsche Welle.
Germany and France back an initiative by five countries in the Sahel region to set up a 5,000-strong task force to fight Islamist terrorist groups.
Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger agreed to the goal in 2014 with support from Berlin and Paris.
