Former President Ben Ali Sentenced In Absentia For Murder, Other Crimes

Tunisia's ousted president has been sentenced in absentia by a military court to 20 years in prison for inciting violence and murder, the BBC reports.

The decision was published Wednesday by state media.

Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali fled to Saudi Arabia in January 2011, where he lives in exile.

The specific charges revolved around a mid-January 2011 incident in the town of Ouardanine, when four men were shot trying to stop the president's nephew fleeing Tunisia.
