Japan’s longest-serving postwar prime minister was shot and killed while campaigning in Nara in southern Japan, reports the Asahi Shimbun.
On Friday, Shinzo Abe was giving a speech in support of a candidate for the elections for Japan’s upper house of Parliament on July 10 when he was shot from behind.
Witnesses said they saw a man approach the former prime minister, heard two loud bangs and then watched Abe collapse. Medical officials said he had two gunshot wounds in the neck.
