The Shanghai Cooperation Organization has named a Russian politician as its next secretary-general, reports Interfax-AVN.
Dmitry Mezentsev, who served as governor of Russia's Irkutsk region from 2009 to this year, will head the SCO from January 2013 to December 2015, reported RIA Novosti.
The SCO is dominated by China and Russia.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is said to have promoted Mezentsev's appointment, reported RIA Novosti.
