Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has appointed a new defense minister who has considerable experience in the post, reports Today's Zaman (Istanbul).
Vecdi Gonul was named to the post on Friday. He held the post in three consecutive governments formed by the Justice and Development Party between 2002 and 2011, reported Defense News.
He succeeds Ismet Yilmaz, who resigned from the post to run for Parliament speaker. He was elected to that position on July 1.
