The Australian government has formally asked to take part in the annual multinational Malabar naval exercises hosted by India and the United States, reports the Australian.
Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith discussed the possibility during a meeting with his Indian counterpart this week in New Delhi.
Smith also invited India to participate in the Australian-hosted multinational drills Kakadu and Pitch Black.
