Indian army troops have been deployed to Srinagar in Kashmir to help quell protests, the BBC reports.
A wave of violence between police and protesters in the past month prompted a strict curfew.
The army has been sent to the outskirts of the city, particularly on the road to the airport, a defense spokesman said.
The state government said it turned to the army for help after police killed three protesters on Tuesday.
