China's prototype J-20 stealth fighter jet made its first flight on Tuesday, Chinese President Hu Jintao told U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates, according to the Guardian (U.K.).
It was only a coincidence that the flight coincided with the Gates visit, Hu said. The secretary is in China for talks on improving military ties.
The fighter is said to have flown for about 15 minutes over an airfield in the southwestern city of Chengdu.
