Naval forces from Japan and the Philippines have held their first ever bilateral naval exercises, reports the Voice of America News.
Tuesday's drills took place in the South China Sea, said Philippine officials. Two Japanese destroyers and a Philippine frigate have been participating.
The day-long exercises were aimed at boosting military capabilities and cooperation, said the government in Manila.
