First Chinese Warships Stop In Tonga

Two Chinese navy warships have just begun that nation's first official visit to the Pacific island nation of Tonga, reports Xinhua, China's state news agency.

The training vessel Zhenghe and frigate Mian Yang arrived Friday in the Tongan capital of Nuku' alofa on a four-day goodwill mission.

The visit is aimed at enhancing mutual relations and military cooperation, said Rear Adm. Leng Zhenqing, the commander of the two-ship Chinese flotilla.
