The Navy has awarded Northrop Grumman a contract to build a new model of unmanned Fire Scout helicopters, reports the San Diego Union-Tribune.
The $262.3 million contract announced Monday covers the production of eight MQ-8C Fire Scouts, which utilize the larger Bell 407 helicopter instead of the Schweizer 333.
Two of the aircraft will be used for testing, with the remainder to go into operational service, said Northrop Grumman officials.
