Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has announced the launching of a second frigate for the Italian navy built to a joint design with France.
The Virginio Fasan was put into the water on Friday at Fincantieri's Riva Trigoso shipyard in Genoa, according to a company release.
The frigate is named after a sailor aboard the destroyer Vivaldi who drowned in the Gulf of Asinara on Sept. 9, 1943. Fasan, a mechanic, was awarded a silver medal for his actions near Pantelleria in June...
