The Indian navy has retired its last Foxtrot-class submarine after 36 years of service, reports the Times of India.
Thursday's decommissioning of INS Vagli leaves India with just 14 older subs, with only eight or nine of the boats operational at any given time.
The fleet is expected to have only 10 operational subs by the time the first of six planned Scorpene-class submarines enters service in 2015.
