The Indian army has been involved in fierce fighting with militants trying to cross the Line of Control into the Indian-administered portion of Kashmir, the BBC reports.
Five militants and three soldiers were reportedly killed in the gun battle in Nowgam area. Fighting began on Sunday and lasted through Monday night, Indian military officials said.
Separately, two protesters were reportedly killed in the town of Anantnag when police opened fire on the crowd. ...
