The Thai Cabinet has approved air force plans to buy new jets and upgrade older aircraft, reports the Nation (Thailand).
The air force's five-year, US$692 million budget covers the purchase of six Swedish Gripen fighters and the modernization of six F-16 jets.
Funds are slated to be disbursed from October 2010 through 2014.
Thailand has already purchased an initial batch of six Gripens.
