The Indonesian air force on Wednesday sent an F-16 fighter and nine-man crew to the disputed Ambalat offshore area to help secure Indonesian waters in the region, reports the Jakarta Post.
Located in the Sulawesi Sea off the east cost of Borneo, Ambalat is thought have significant oil and gas reserves. It is claimed by Indonesia and Malaysia.
Indonesian officials denied that the move is related to growing tensions between the two countries.
