The reputed leader of the Beltran Leyva drug cartel was killed Wednesday in a shootout with federal forces in northern Mexico, CNN reports.
Mexican troops killed Pedro Roberto Velazquez Amador, also known as "La Pina," after they were fired on while patrolling the San Pedro area in Monterrey, officials said.
Troops seized three small arms, 30 rounds of ammunition, a laptop and two vehicles, military officials said.
