An Ivorian army colonel was arrested in New York last week by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for attempting to buy weapons, reports Radio France Internationale.
Col. Yao N'guessan was said to be on official state business, according to the Ivory Coast military.
The colonel was seeking to buy 4,000 handguns, 200,000 rounds of ammunition and 50,000 tear gas grenades for more than $3.8 million, according to the FBI.
