Unknown bandits have reportedly attacked a village in Nigeria’s southeastern Benue state, reports the News Agency of Nigeria.
On Wednesday, suspected armed bandits attacked the community of Agatu, killing several people. The number of casualties was not immediately known, although it was believed to be less than 16, said Maj. Gen. Adeyemi Yekini, the commander of a special military task force in the region.
The force, known as Operation Whirl Stroke, is deployed in the Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba states to combat armed groups and restore peace.
Farming communities in the region have seen a rise in attacks by herdsmen in recent years.
