Facing Deactivation, ‘Big E’ Is Now Out Of Ammo

The carrier USS Enterprise has completed a final ammunition offload ahead of her inactivation, reports the Navy NewsStand.
During the operation late last week, 3.4 million pounds of ammunition were transferred from the Enterprise to the Lewis and Clark-class cargo ships Matthew Perry and Sacagawea, according to Navy officials.
Preparation began a month before, shortly after the Enterprise completed her final sortie in support of operations in Afghanistan.
