The seventh F-35 Lightning II test aircraft made its maiden flight on Tuesday, announced Lockheed Martin.
The test aircraft, designated AF-2, is intended for weapons testing for the F-35A conventional takeoff and landing variant of the Joint Strike Fighter.
The trials will be used to verify the fighter's ability to carry both internal and external weapons throughout the required flight envelope.
AF-2 is also the first aircraft to have the 25-mm GAU-22/A gun system...
