The program office for the F-35 fighter says the Pentagon's decision to delay the purchase of 124 of the fighters is expected to free up $6.9 billion for the military services for other uses, reports Bloomberg News.
The decision to delay the procurement of those units beyond fiscal 2016, announced on Jan. 6 by Defense Secretary Robert Gates, means $6.9 billion will revert to the services from 2012 to 2016, according to the F-35 program office.
