Work on a new fleet of Australian warships will start earlier than expected, say officials cited by the Wall Street Journal.
Construction on a US$14.6 billion fleet of nine advanced frigates will begin within five years, said Prime Minister Tony Abbott on Tuesday. That is about three years earlier than previous plans.
Another 20 large offshore combat vessels will be built at the same time, said Abbott.
