With Eye On Regional Shipping Lanes, U.S. Pledges Help To Navy

The U.S. government has offered to assist the Philippine navy's efforts to increase naval patrols in its maritime territory, Agence France-Presse reports.
Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kurt Campbell made the promise during a security meeting in Manila on Thursday.
The overall objective of the allies is to keep the vital sea lanes open in the area as China's influence has grown.
