With An Eye On China, Island Defenses To Get Upgrade

India says it will upgrade weapons and equipment based on the island chains of Andaman and Nicobar in the eastern Indian Ocean, Defense News reports.

The move is widely seen as an attempt to counter China's growing influence.

The air force will place multirole Su-30MKI fighter jets on the islands and increase the number of operational airfields, officials said.

The upgrade will increase India reach in South Asia by more than 1,200 km (746 mi), reported the Indian Express. ...
