Expressing Concerns Over Security, U.N. Gives Another Year To Darfur Peacekeeping Mission

The United Nations Security Council has renewed the mandate for the peacekeeping mission in the Darfur region in Sudan, reports the New York Times.

On Monday, the Security Council voted unanimously to extend the joint U.N.-African Union mission (UNAMID) for another year, until June 30, 2014.

The council expressed concerns over the "serious deterioration" of the security situation, noted the U.N. News Center.
