Algeria has sentenced four senior members of the ruling elite to lengthy prison terms, reports Reuters. On Wednesday, former spy chief Mohamed Mediene; his replacement, Bachir Tartag; younger brother of ex-president Abdelaziz Bouteflika, Said Bouteflika; and the head of a pro-government political party, Louisa Hanoune, each received 15-year sentences for “conspiring against the army” and against “the authority of the state.” An appeal may be filed within the next 10 days.
