The Council of the European Union has imposed sanctions on 16 Syrians for their alleged involvement in a chemical attack in northern Syria this spring.
They were sanctioned for their role in the development and use of chemical weapons against civilians, the council said in a release on Monday.
Named were eight high-ranking military officials and eight scientists said to be involved in chemical weapons proliferation and delivery.
