Estimated F-35 Program Costs Grow By $27.5 Billion When Air Force Extends Planned Production

The latest Pentagon figures indicate that the overall cost of the F-35 Lightning II fighter program will grow by more than $27 billion in part because of an extension to the production period, reports Bloomberg News.
Total acquisition costs for the stealth jet is predicted to rise about 7 percent to $406.5 billion, according to the latest Selected Acquisition Report. This trend is a reversal after several years of declining estimates.
