Engine Woes Scrub Icebreaker's Antarctic Mission

An engine breakdown has forced the U.S. Coast Guard to cancel the planned fall Antarctic deployment of the icebreaker Polar Sea, the Navy Times reports.
The icebreaker was supposed to support Operation Deep Freeze in the resupply of McMurdo Station, the American research center in Antarctica.
The Polar Sea will likely be unavailable until January, according to a Coast Guard announcement.
Commissioned on Feb. 23, 1978, the icebreaker has already exceeded its 30-year life...
