The U.S. Navy is facing a nearly $1 billion shortfall in its maintenance budget and may be forced to delay critical maintenance, reports Defense News. The shortfall was discovered as part of a midyear review of fiscal 2019 budget spending. The cause of the shortfall is emergency maintenance costs that total $3 billion, including nearly $1 billion for ship depot maintenance.
