Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has lifted a state of emergency in three northeastern provinces on Friday, while maintaining it in the capital, Reuters reports.
Emergency rule bans public gatherings and gives security forces broad powers. It has been in place in Bangkok since April due to anti-government protests that left 91 people dead and over 2,000 injured.
Three provinces surrounding Bangkok also remain under emergency rule, government officials said.
