Electric Boat Wins Sub Work Worth $172 Million

The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat of Groton, Conn., a major contract for work on Virginia-class submarines, reports the Dept of Defense.

An initial contract, worth $172 million, covers lead yard services, development studies and design efforts related to the subs.

The deal also includes options worth up to $881 million.

Work under the contract, to be primarily performed in Groton, is scheduled to be completed by October 2010.
