When ISIS militants held the northern Iraqi city of Sinjar, the group built an impressive tunnel network in order to escape coalition airstrikes, reports the Wall Street Journal.
Kurdish forces liberated the city from ISIS control last week after a two-day offensive. The tunnels found there have been documented in photos published by the Journal.
"There are so many tunnels we can't count them," Maj. Hussein Khuru Murad, a Kurdish officer, said on Monday.
