Early Findings Point To Naval Crew Errors In June Destroyer Collision

The preliminary results of an investigation into last month's collision of a U.S. Navy destroyer and Philippine cargo ship off the coast of Japan suggest multiple errors by the American crew caused the accident, reports CNN, citing unnamed defense officials.

The June 17 collision between USS Fitzgerald and the ACX Crystal led to the deaths of seven U.S. sailors. The accident took place 56 nm off the coast of Honshu, Japan, in an area with heavy commercial shipping traffic.
