Nepalese officials say an injured riot police officer was dragged from an ambulance in southern Nepal on Friday and beaten to death, reports the New York Times.

Protests erupted after a new draft constitution to set up a federal system in Nepal was unveiled last month. Members of a minority group in the southern part of the country reject the proposal, which would divide their region, noted Reuters.
