A group of army officers led a mutiny against the Madagascar government on Wednesday, Deutsche Presse-Agentur reports.
The mutineers, led by Col. Charles Andrianasoavina, said they were taking power from Andry Rajoelina.
Andrianasoavina said they would install a committee to run the country while pursuing an agenda of national reconciliation.
Rajoelina was brought to power in a March 2009 coup.
