The Philippine government has fired its navy chief over a controversial frigate procurement plan, reports the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
On Tuesday, Vice Adm. Ronald Joseph Mercado was relieved of duty and immediately replaced by Rear Adm. Robert Empedrad.
Empedrad has been serving as the deputy chief of staff for reserve and retire affairs for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
