The huge diesel generators have been fired up for the first time on the Queen Elizabeth, the first of two aircraft carriers that are being built for the British Royal Navy, reports the U.K. Ministry of Defense.
Months of work were required before the first of the ship's four diesel engines, which are directly coupled to the generators, could be activated, the ministry said last week.
