Russia is developing an airborne laser as a way to defeat enemy technical intelligence-gathering methods, reports Interfax-AVN.
Mounted on an Il-76 cargo aircraft, the system fires laser energy at remote sites to suppress optical and electronic instruments in the infrared range, according to a defense industry source.
The laser can defeat space, air and ground intelligence-gathering systems, the source said.
