Destroyer Commander Loses Job For Hitting Buoy

The U.S. Navy has relieved a destroyer commander of duty after his destroyer struck a buoy in the Persian Gulf two months ago, reports the Navy Times.

Cmdr. Neil Funtanilla, the commander of The Sullivans (DDG-68) was found "derelict in the performance of his duties" by a non-judicial hearing in Manama, Bahrain, and then relieved by Rear Adm. Phil Davidson, who heads Combined task Force 50.
